THAITANIUM
Thaitanium comprises of five proud sons of Siam with different backgrounds – Khanngeon “KHAN” Nuanual, Prinya “WAY” Intachai, Naymyo “DAY” Thant, Jason “BIG CALO” Roth, and Watana “DJAYBUDDAH” Watanachaiyot who are considered to be pioneers of Thailand’s hip hop industry.
KHAN and DAY are Thai nationals by birth, WAY, was born and raised in New York as with DJAYBUDDAH, and the youngest member of the group, BIG CALO was raised in Tampa, Florida.
KHAN and DAY first forged their friendship as a DJ/MC duo hosting jump off house parties in the San Francisco hip-hop scene, where the pair had both emigrated as young teens to pursue their education and to realize their dream to become musicians. While in Bangkok working on his solo album, KHAN made the acquaintance of WAY, then a young upstart Thai-American artist. From this meeting, the idea of a three-man, Thai hip hop group was born in Bangkok, eventually moving to New York in 2000, where their varied regional influences have since been heard in each album produced and released. In 2006, the addition of BIG CALO, WAY’s childhood friend and aspiring rapper, and DJAYBUDDAH, already a prominent DJ in New York City, were both added to the group.
Since then, Thaitanium and its parent label, Thaitanium Enertainment Inc., haveproduced their first two albums, AA and Thai Riders, which were exclusively self-promoted, launching them to the forefront of the Asia music industry while gaining a huge following in Thailand and the rest of Asia. Their follow up albums, P77 and RASwere subsequently distributed by Sony BMG Music Entertainment, where RAS, aka “Resisting Against Da System” attracted the interest of Grammy, a major player in the domestic Thai entertainment.
For the past 13 years, Thaitanium has been carving out a solid niche and reputation as one of the biggest and most successful hip hop groups in Asia through their unique blend of Thai and New York street sounds. The result has seen Thaitanium perform across Thailand, Southeast Asia, Japan, Europe, Australia and America, where they have been the opening acts for some of the world’s biggest hip hop artists, such as Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, Far East Movement, Nas, Sean Kingston, Flo Rida and 50 Cent on his “Get Rich or Die Trying” world tour with Fort Minor.
2010 marked Thaitanium's 10-year anniversary and the release of a double album "Still Resisting", where they worked for the first time with international producers and artists such as the legendary producer DJ Clark Kent and LiL Fame from rap group M.O.P. The individual members of Thaitanium are simultaneously working on a variety of independent projects ranging from clothing lines, acting, modeling, as well as publishing and film.
Their last concert tour took place in four U.S. cities in 2013 and they most recently performed at the Music Tornado Festival in Japan in March this year.
They have received a number of accolades including the “Best Hip Hop Group” award at the Independent Asian Music Awards (AVIMA) 2009 and “Best Group” award at You2play Awards 2012. They were also nominated for “Favorite Artist Thailand” at the MTV Asia Awards 2006.
