30 September 2013

Trainees who dream of becoming a star spend day and night singing and dancing—their biggest goal is to make a ‘debut’. However, even after a successful debut, in the South Korean music market where tens of new groups are born every year, winning the hearts of the public as a true artist is practically impossible. No one can predict who will be successful, and there is no set formula for it either. Even YG Entertainment, the entertainment agency which produced BIGBANG and 2NE1, groups which each respectively brought about a paradigm shift in the music world in 2006 with its borderless popularity and changed the entire perception of girl groups, has not debuted a new group for the last 4 years. And the exact agency, YG, has returned finally in 2013 with the first boy group in 8 years since BIGBANG’s debut, named ‘WINNER’. But the members of the boy group has not been confirmed yet, as YG’s next boy group formation will be determined on a real survival battle program called ‘WHO IS NEXT : WIN’ where only the real surviving team can seize the name ‘WINNER’ to make a debut. This is a real test to see who can remain alive in the dog-eat-dog pop music market. The most important aspect of this program is that the fait of ‘WINNER’ is dependent on the viewers. Even the founder of YG, YANG HYUN SUK, will only be giving brief advice to the contestants. He boldly chose to let the viewers decide completely to see who the true ‘WINNER’ is. ‘WIN’, which allows the public to participate even before a new group is formed properly, will create a battlefield for the 11 members who have been training at YG for a long time. The boys will be divided into Teams A and B for a fierce fight.

Team A, which consists of KANG SEUNG YOON, the recently debuted ex-contestant of Mnet’s Superstar K2 and LEE SEUNG HOON, the ex-contestant of K-Pop Star, have 5 members in total with the average age of 20. Team B has 6 members with the average age of 17, with the then boy rapper B.I. who featured in MC Mong’s ‘Indian Boy’ and Koo Jun Hoe, another ex-contestant of K-Pop Star.
The final winning team will seize the name ‘WINNER’ to make a debut immediately after the program finishes, while the losing team’s debut will be postponed indefinitely. ‘WIN’, a program that is to show the harsh and cold reality of the professional world, will depend completely on the viewers’ decision to choose the winning team. The battle program will keep everyone on their toes, as even YG will not find out the winner until the very end.

How the Program is Run
WIN’ is not an auditioning program with judges, but is a 100% real survival battle program where the viewers decide the final winner. From episodes 1 to 10, there will be 3 battles in total, and along with YG’s founder YANG HYUN SUK, other YG artists, producers and special guests will be participating in the process of the competition.

Online and mobile advance voting will be available from episodes that the battle begins, and the final battle, which is aired live, will allow viewers to use live text message voting system. The final winner is determined based on the tally from online/mobile advance voting and live text message voting combined. Further details on the voting method and dates will be announced later.

WIN Airing Information

Last weekend was a blast for me celebrating my weekend with the presence of Big Star, a youthful and extraordinary Kpop boy group all the way from South Korea, performing at Pavilion for Inspiring KOREA Festival on 21st and 22nd September 2013, 6PM. It marked the first visit of Big Star to Malaysia. Members of Big Star are Feeldog (leader), Sunghak, Raehwan, Baram and Jude (maknae).

Feeldog

Baram

The boys sang 5 of their songs which included "Hot Boy", "Think", "I Got The Feeling", "Baby Girl" and also their latest comeback song "Run And Run". Big Star was here at Pavilion during the 6PM session of Inspiring KOREA Festival called Hang Out With Big Star.

Baram, Jude and Raehwan

Besides singing their hit songs, the cute boys called fans up on stage to play traditional Korean games with them and also introduced their own hometown to the fans to promote Korea tourism. Big Star's fan service was over the line as they get fans roaring in the crowd with their flying kisses, winks and heart-sign throwing. The boys was amazed to see such large crowd.

Sunghak

Big Star initiated a chaos during the end of the second day performance by going down stage to shake hands with their fans. To show fans how much they appreciate them, Big Star have learned a few sweet greetings in Malay and was eager to show it off to their fans. "Selamat Petang", "Terima Kasih", "Saya Cinta Kamu", "Saya Tunggu Kamu" sounds so cute coming out from the Korean heart-throbs. They even sang "Rasa Sayang" to the crowd for 3 times straight!

“Live Cut” Premieres Wednesday, 11th September 2013 @ 9pm (TH/WIB), 10pm (SIN/HK/PH), 11pm (MAL)
MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2013’s full show premiere on Saturday, 21st September 2013 @ 10.30am (TH/WIB), 11.30am (SIN/HK/PH), 12.30pm (MAL)

MALAYSIA, 9 SEPTEMBER 2013 – The annual fever for MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2013 has hit Surf Beach at Sunway Lagoon last night, but this year’s heat hits an all-time temperature high with a stellar line-up of all-male performers with Robin Thicke, Far East Movement , EXO and Joe Flizzow, who ignited the stage with a collective explosion of R&B, hip-hop and K-pop performances. Even the rain could not dampen and bring down the fever, as VJ Hanli shouted out, “Malaysia, boleh!” to a live audience of about 15,000 fans.

Joe Flizzow opened the night with an energetic performance of five songs (Iller Iller, Untukmu, All Around My World, Havoc and Who Do It Better), which included a collaboration with SonaOne and Altimet on Havoc.

This was followed by EXO who set the audience into a wild frenzy when they glided, danced and howled through throngs of fans during the show-stopping performance. EXO fans have been queuing up since Friday night in anticipation to meet their well-loved artists and were not disappointed as the twelve-member band enjoyed a short chat with grateful fans and expressed their love for Malaysia. Apart from Wolf, the preppy-looking boys also sang History, 365 and Growl, much to the delight of their young fans. MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia 2013 is EXO’s first performance in Malaysia as a full-member group and on MTV.

Far East Movement accelerated the already frenzied energy level with a twelve-song medley that kept the audience pumping non-stop (Ain’t Coming Down X Wild Things, Like a G6, Illest, So What, If I was You, Jello, Change Your Life, Rocket, Get Up (Rattle), Rocketeer and Live My Life). Fans sang along with Rocketeer, which they remixed with Alicia Keys’ No One. Staying true to their usual party-fun performances, the four-member band gave a few crowd surprises with J-Splif drumming and keyboarding to iPads adorned on his outfit, while DJ Virman did a part-solo performance when he put on a ‘duck-head’ costume. They climaxed their performance with crowd favorite, Turn Up the Love. Fans went wild when Far East Movement threw a larger-than-life inflatable duck into the ‘pool’ of fans, putting the crowd-surfing duck on the loose amongst fans. The biggest hit was when Prohgress threw himself into a crowd-surf too.

Closing the show, against the backdrop of Sunway Lagoon, was the man of the moment, Robin Thicke, who was accompanied by three female vocalists. He delivered a sexy, soulful and fun performance of nine songs, including Give It To You, Take It Easy on Me, Feel Good, Oh Shooter, Lost Without U, Shaking It For Daddy and Blurred Lines.

Thicke encouraged fans to never give up their dreams even if it comes later for some, alluding to his new-found fame that emerged recently. He played an emotionally-charged rendition of Dreamworld in true R&B fashion. Chart-topping Blurred Lines was the obvious audience favorite of his performance, with fans singing alongside with him. He ended with an explosion of fireworks in his final performance with Clique.

Over the last 24 hours, MTV World Stage Live in Malaysia has garnered over 83,000 mentions on MTV World Stage in social media, across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.
